The Seahawks should be a winning team this year. Though there is talk of San Francisco, and St. Louis is looking strong, Seattle is the true front runner for the division title. Branch needs to break away from the mediocre numbers his career has been mired in and everyone is anticipating this to be the year he does just that. With Jackson gone he is the clear #1. The line is beginning to heal from the loss of Hutchinson and the quarterback is a solid veteran in his prime. The running game is special and consistent so there is no reason not to believe that he will finally ascend to elite status. Hackett is the consensus pundit choice to grab the number 2 and will not challenge Branch. My issue with him is the Doubting Thoması syndrome and other issues of mediocrity that this team flirts with. They rode an easy schedule into the Superbowl, then, clearly the physically superior team, they lost from being out-schemed and out-hearted. Destiny is a funny thing and you can cry about East coast bias and faulty refs, but, in the end it was a design play that anticipated the conservativeness of Holmgren that won the game. Iım sorry, but, I believe that the team will always be a tad mediocre as long as Holmgren is the coach. Which brings us back to Branch. He will get a lot of attention this year and the schedule is not as favorable as it has been in the past. San Francisco is getting better and so is Arizona. St. Louis is loaded and hungry and has traditionally had Seattleıs number. Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and New Orleans are champs and if the defense is not as stout as it should be then they could go into their bye with a 2-5 record and riding a demoralizing losing streak. That would shatter this team. Chicago, Philadelphia Carolina and Baltimore will be a gauntlet through the second half. Branch is a bit of a little guy and needs to show some Steve Largent skills on the field this year. I think 1000 yards and 8 TDs might be his ceiling and that just wonıt cut it for a #1 on any fantasy football team. |
