OK, this is the magical third year for this receiver. 6' 1" 197, 816 yards and 8 touchdowns. The problem with Philadelphia and New England is their systems. Both Belichick and Andy Reid are football geniuses. They mix it up regularly and play against your weaknesses. They try hard not to establish a pattern and are very fluid and flexible in their attack. This makes the quarterbacks and kickers the only reliable fantasy scorers on these teams. (In the hybrid role, Westbrook has been very reliable when healthy.) This team's success, this year, really rides on the shoulders of McNabb. He is their star. If he is ready to go and remains healthy through-out the season then they will be looking at a playoff berth and Brown will be the leading recipient of the passes and passing touchdowns. But, what does that mean? His stats from last year should improve, especially the yards, but McNabb loves to score. And, the red zone is where this team gets most creative. Lots of people can score and here is the problem for Brown. He needs to not only assert himself this year, but, also prove that he is completely reliable and wrest control of the focus of scoring away from Westbrook. The team is sensitive to Westbrook's injury proclivities, and, have kept Correll Buckhalter as the short yardage and goal line pounder. They would love for Brown to be more of a weapon but then might just use him as a distraction. Curtis is a solid veteran and better suited as a possession receiver. Baskett and Avant have good chances to actually wrest control of the #2 position, but, will have to step up and want it. As it stands between McNabb and Westbrook, Brown should get a fair share of the touchdowns. Philadelphia has a great defense and a best contending offensive line. L.J. Smith has great hands, but, is often used as an extra blocker in their schemes. This should be a great year for Brown and he will be a solid contributor off your bench or even as a starter. There are still a lot of questions that his play will answer, and this is why he does not rank higher. He needs a bit of the Owens attitude and tenacity against opposing Ds and his route running needs to be crisp and crafty. McNabb will be more confined to the pocket and he needs to be there for him. If he is then he will benefit greatly. This team has had a remarkable run and now that the only controversies are injuries it could have a lucky year to go along with it's solid play and be a serious contender come playoff time. Brown is an okay #2 and a great #3 on any fantasy team. |
