Westbrook's numbers are nothing short of phenomenal. Credit Andy Reid for that. Reid is an excellent coach, always open to creativity and innovation; he finds a way to get the most out of his well coached players. Donovan McNabb is a fantasy god, but, unlike Palmer and Manning who tow a pair of receivers skiing into the record books, he seems to suck up all the points on this team; until the emergence of Westbrook. I'll never understand holding on to people like Duce, slip on water outside the locker room, Staley and Correll, my knees are glass, Buckhalter. Is it loyalty? Does this kind of loyalty win games? Loyalty to me is giving Hines Ward a contract before it blows up into a media circus. Loyalty is a player who keeps his business in-house and privately demands his due yet still shows up 100% committed to every practice and workout. Loyalty is playing your heart out for the fans, who pay for your salary, instead of being a jerk or a primping prima donna, and a major distraction to your team. Championships look better on the resume then a rep for crying and tubing the playoffs when you donıt get what you think you want; just ask the Pittsburgh-Barry Bonds. But hanging on and not getting a back-up for a perennial ailing, underachieving player; in this case, has allowed Westbrook to develop and shine. His perfect blend of receiving and rushing skills make him the rarest of the rare, a hybrid, and, as fantasy players are quickly catching on, potent week to week fantasy scorers. This back is usually smaller and subjected to 'maybes' and 'we'll sees' and drafted low after enduring criticisms and scrutiny. Yet those with the heart of lions step up and are more thankful, more sacrificing and better team players while outperforming the heralded demi-gods that strut their stuff for all to see. Give a big headed, much heralded back a new contract and usually write off his next season as he lazily rides his popularity. A successful hybrid or unexpected star will perform better every year until they breakdown, or the system changes. And, this is the big question about Westbrook. McNabb and Westbrook are the only real fantasy picks in Philadelphia, outside of the defense. McNabb like Brady spreads the ball around and, as good as Brown is, he will continually put up New England-Branch numbers due to Reidıs system. Yet, both McNabb and Westbrook are huge injury risks. McNabb should be picked third or fourth if you could be guaranteed his durability, but, his track record is terrible in recent years. He should not be concerned that they picked Kolb because his job is secure as long as he is healthy. How many draft picks have come and gone in Green Bay while Favre keeps playing. Westbrook had the nagging injuries and has increased his workouts to prepare for this. He was not the heralded star, but, the guy that wasnıt supposed to make it. His work ethic is excellent and by playing through last year healthy, proved that he can do it. I think with his conditioning he has reached a plateau of experience and is a good bet to succeed through this year as well. Even without McNabb he scores; and Philadelphia did not add any other playmakers. He is here in my rankings, because, at 11 his gaudy numbers cannot be ignored. He is the focal point of the scoring for his team and the touchdowns in Philly go through him. |
